Books for Younger Readers

This year I have been a big fan of books aimed at younger readers.
This might make them sound 'not that good' but in fact I reckon they are as good or even better than books for older types.
They usually have better pictures as well. In my opinion most books would benefit from more quality illustrations.
Here is a list I heartily recommend if you enjoy fantasy/horror:

The Spook's Apprentice (The Wardstone Chronicles) by Joseph Delaney
Excellent series about a boy, Tom, who becomes apprentice to the local 'Spook'. A Spook is  someone who deals with supernatural threats such as witches, ghosts or boggarts. The books are set in a fictional 16th/17th? century Lancashire and are excellent.(Currently 6 out of 10 books published plus some supplementary ones)
Spooks World

The Skullduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy
A young girl becomes the sidekick of a supernatural detective who also happens to be a living skeleton. Cool fantasy with some cthulhu mythos thrown in for good measure.(Currently 5 out of 9 books published )
Skulduggery Pleasant

The Alchemyst  - (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel) series by Michael Scott
Twins, Sophie and Josh, discover that they are the twins of legend that will either save or destroy the world.
Brilliant stuff mixing fantasy with a huge host of historical figures who as it turns out are all immortals with magical powers. (Currently 4 out of 6 books published )
Michael Scott

The Black Book of Secrets (Tales from the Sinister City) series by F.E.Higgins
Gothic Horror, each book is a different story but there are links between them. Get better with each book.
(Currently 4 books published )

Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror - by Chris Priestly (great illustrations by David Roberts)
Really excellent short horror and ghost stories. The other two books are 'Tales of Terror from the Black Ship' and 'Tales of Terror from the Tunnels Mouth'
Tales of Terror

The Edge Chronicles by - Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell (brilliant illustrations by Chris Riddell)
Great fantasy series about the adventures of a boy named Twig. I've only read the first 3 of these.
The Edge Chronicles

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (also illustrated by Chris Riddell)
Just a great book.
